Johnson Electric, a leading player in the automotive sector, has signed an MOU with the Central University of Tamil Nadu for launching a 3-year Mechatronics Diploma Programme. The course will be conducted in Chennai, where Johnson Electric will provide students with accommodation and meals, ensuring a conducive learning environment and hands-on industry exposure. This arrangement allows students to fully dedicate themselves to their studies and training, which is critical to their success in this highly specialized field.

The five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to launch a comprehensive Mechatronics Diploma Program, which will be one of the flagship courses offered by the Community College at CUTN was signed between Madhu A.L., Johnson Electric and Prof Dr R. Thirumurugan, Registrar of the Central University of Tamil Nadu, in the presence of Prof Dr M Krishnan, Vice-Chancellor CUTN.

Under this strategic collaboration, Johnson Electric will induct 35 students this year into a three-year diploma program focused on the manufacturing of micro motors for major automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Johnson Electric caters to industry giants such as Maruti Suzuki, Renault, Mahindra, Tata Motors, and several Tier 1 suppliers.

The program is particularly noteworthy for its emphasis on inclusivity and social impact. Priority will be given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds, offering them a valuable opportunity to gain world-class training in a high-demand sector. Participants will receive a monthly stipend starting at Rs. 12,500 in the first year, with increases to Rs. 13,000 in the second year and Rs. 13,500 in the third year. Upon completing the program, Central University of Tamil Nadu will provide a diploma certificate, and the graduates will be absorbed into Johnson Electric as regular employees with a salary commensurate with industry standards.

Prof Dr M. Krishnan, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Tamil Nadu, expressed his optimism about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration will not only benefit the students but also contribute significantly to the growth of the automotive industry in India. We are committed to nurturing young talent and providing them with the skills and opportunities to succeed and contribute to the nation’s development.”
