“Divyang Shakti – Training of Trainers in Sports for Special Kids” program., an initiative, under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) SANKALP Scheme and led by the Sports, Physical Education, Fitness, and Leisure Skills Council (SPEFL-SC), is designed to empower educators across 18 Indian states with specialized skills to engage children with special needs through sports.  Recently a rigorous five-day training program conducted at Manav Rachna University for such trainers.

At the end of the training program certificates were distributed among participants at a ceremony attended by . Neha Chaudhary (General Manager, SPEFL-SC), Manoj Kumar (Senior Manager, SPEFL-SC), and Tapti Bhattacharya from MSDE, who awarded certificates and encouraged the newly trained educators to apply their skills to promote inclusive sports.

The Divyang Shakti Project aims to foster an “Inclusive Culture” by training 33,498 physical education teachers, special educators, and B.Ed and B.P.Ed students in implementing play-based sports programs for children with disabilities. The project, which spans states like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Kerala, integrates inclusive physical education methodologies to enhance the physical and mental well-being of these children, facilitating their academic and social integration.

“This project has instilled an ‘Inclusive Culture’ by incorporating activities that improve teamwork, critical thinking, and confidence,” stated Tahsin Zahid, CEO of SPEFL-SC. “By implementing this program in government schools, special needs institutions, and teacher training colleges, we are establishing best practices for inclusive education. Our goal is to ensure that children with disabilities receive equal opportunities to develop and excel.”

The project addresses the critical need for specialized training in inclusive sports education, enabling educators to create environments where children with disabilities can thrive. By equipping trainers with the necessary skills, the Divyang Shakti Project contributes to a more inclusive learning environment, facilitating the seamless integration of these children into mainstream education and society.

This certificate ceremony marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to empower educators and promote inclusivity in sports education across India.
