The Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH India 2025), in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council and the Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Nursing, hosted a two-day International Healthcare Simulation Conference at the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER). The event drew over 300 teaching faculty members from nursing and allied health sciences, highlighting the transformative role of simulation in healthcare education and patient safety.

The conference was inaugurated by Ms. Colette Laws Chapman, President, ASPiH UK, and Lead Nurse for Simulation and Interactive Learning, Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, UK, along with Dr. S. Ani Grace Kalaimathi, Registrar, Tamil Nadu Nurses & Midwives Council. Distinguished speakers included Dr. Makani Purva, Consultant Obstetric Anesthetist, Hull Teaching Hospitals, UK; Prof. Sharon Marie Weldon, President Elect, ASPiH UK; Prof. Paul O’Connor, Research Lead; and Dr. Jane Roome, Special Interest Group Lead. Dr. Uma Sekar, Vice Chancellor, SRIHER, and Dr. S.J. Nalini, Principal, Faculty of Nursing, also graced the occasion and participated in key sessions.

The conference introduced global standards and best practices in healthcare simulation, explored the role of simulation in improving patient safety and education, and showcased innovations such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and Extended Reality (XR) in simulation-based training. Discussions also focused on policy frameworks for simulation centre development, accreditation processes, and fostering inter-professional collaboration.

Dr. Uma Sekar emphasized that medical, nursing, pharmacy, and allied health councils are advising the integration of simulation-based learning into curricula. “This approach bridges the gap between theory and practice and fosters immersive learning with interdisciplinary inputs,” she said.

The event concluded with strong calls for advancing simulation in healthcare training, reaffirming SRIHER’s role as a hub for academic innovation and global collaboration.
