Designed and run entirely by Grade 10 and Grade 11 students of Stonehill International School, Bangalore, the Stonehill Science Bowl 2025 event in early December featured over 36 teams across 24 schools worldwide, including Germany and China. The High School competition took place online, making it possible for students from different time zones to take part while the Middle School edition of the Science Bowl, held on campus, brought together teams from Bangalore and Chennai.
This year’s theme focused on the impact of climate change on the Indian Ocean. “It was inspiring to see how students from Germany proposed a thoughtful solution to a problem specific to the Bay of Bengal region,” said Maitreyee Banerjee, HOD Science, MYP & DP Physics at Stonehill International School. “Their perspective highlighted the international spirit of the event, where students from diverse backgrounds came together to collaborate, innovate, and compete.”
Middle School teams competed in rapid-fire quiz rounds and a STEM Challenge that tested creativity and problem-solving. High School teams addressed real-world scientific issues for the ‘Modern Problems Require Modern Solutions’ round.
More than a contest, the Stonehill Science Bowl has become a platform where young minds test their knowledge, teamwork, and leadership in meaningful ways as it encourages students to think beyond the textbook. As an entirely student-organised event, Stonehill Science Bowl has also evolved into a springboard for students to gain leadership skills and capabilities.
