Odisha leads IndiaSkills 2021 Nationals winners, who now enter into preparation for WorldSkills Shanghai in Oct

For more than 150 winners of the IndiaSkills 2021 Nationals declared, the thousand mile journey to WorldSkills Shanghai, China has now firmed up. The ‘Olympic’ of skills will be held in October 2022 and these winners will represent India at the world stage. Among the winners are 61 gold medallists, 77 silver medallists and 53 bronze medal winners. And on expected lines the largest contingent will be from the state of Odisha, which won 37 medals and 14 medallions.

The winners were announced on January 9 after the country’s biggest skill competition, IndiaSkills 2021 Nationals held closed-door for three-days in multi-locations with all Covid-prevention protocols drew to a close amidst of the Omicron wave that is bringing back the spectre of Covid devastation. IndiaSkills Competition, which raises the profile and recognition of the youth, brought together over 500 participants from 26 states/ union territories this year. The skill competitions were held at multiple locations, including Pragati Maidan and offsite locations in the National Capital Region, from 7 to 9 January. To further disperse the participants, the competitions for eight skills were conducted in Bengaluru and Mumbai from 3 to 5 January. This year’s IndiaSkills Competition has raised the bar of skill development by witnessing over 2.5 lakh registrations in August-September 2021.

Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), felicitated the winners.  The 59 gold medallists were awarded with a cash prize of INR 100,000, 73 were given silver medals with a prize money of INR 75,000 and 53 received bronze medals with a cash prize of INR 50,000. More than 50 participants won the Medallion of Excellence. Secretary said that the government, industry and experts will work together to ensure that Team India is best equipped with the desired training and tools to perform their best at WorldSkills International Competition later this year.
