The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Dec 18 inaugurated the new campus of the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong (esb. 2007). IIM Shillong’s Knowledge Centre in the new campus will be one of the most fully-automated libraries in India, with more than 40 databases accessible to students, scholars and faculty members as E-resources. It will also provide access to students, faculty, and local policymakers and bureaucrats to more than 17,000 E-journals. The campus will also provide high-speed internet access via optical-fibres, and will have sports and recreation centres, such as football and cricket grounds, and basketball courts.

The State-of-the-art infrastructure in its new campus will have facilities that will open up many opportunities for hosting academic programs for both national and international students and management development engagements.

Prime Minister Modi in his speech, said, “Professional institutions like IIM Shillong will be beneficial for NE region. The presence of such institutions will make way for ways and means of livelihood”.

IIM Shillong was established by the then Ministry of HRD (Now Ministry of Education) as the 7th IIM, that could establish itself as an Institute of National Importance and had been serving in many ways for the development of the North Eastern Region besides being known for its academic prudence in management education.

Shishir Kumar Bajoria, Chairman  BoG, IIM Shillong in his comments said:

“Today is a historic day for IIM Shillong as the honourable prime minister inaugurates the 120 acre new campus. Because nature and education go hand in hand, the campus known as the campus in the cloud is located the lap of nature and offers finest education.”

IIM Shillong is a think-tank that serves the entire north-eastern region in addition to being a business school. This New campus will enable us to enrol more students, do more research, and work harder and more efficiently to achieve the prosperity on India’s North-Eastern states.
