IIT Roorkee and five academic institutions viz., Graphic Era (Deemed to be University), Dehradun; Swami Rama Himalayan University, Jolly Grant, Dehradun; Noida Institute of Engineering & Technology, Gr. Noida; National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand; College of Engineering, Roorkee, have entered into a partnership to establish the initial framework for cooperation for knowledge creation and collaboration in Research, Innovation and Development (R&D).
IIT Roorkee, which is celebrating 175 years of its proud journey, has rolled out several celebratory initiatives and this collaboration is one of them. Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, has in fact called on all Higher Education Institutes (HEIs), in Uttarakhand and the institutes within 200 km radius of Roorkee to be part of such ecosystem.
The scope of the partnership is to promote Academic and Research cooperation and the Development as outlined in IIT Roorkee 175 partnerships initiative, viz., research collaboration, joint guidance of Phd students, PhD fellowships to faculty members, faculty visit to IIT Roorkee from partnering institutes, provision of research scholar visit, allow for joint proposals of funding to enable setting up research capability at the partner institutes, among others.
Prof. H. N. Nagaraja, Vice Chancellor, Graphic Era University, Dehradun, welcomed the partnership that aims at life-altering discoveries, acquisition of knowledge and transformative experiences. Prof. Vijay Dhasmana, Vice Chancellor, Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun, also acclaimed the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary cooperation outlined in the MoU.
Prof. Vinod M. Kapse, Director, Noida Institute of Engg. & Technology, UP, saw this partnership in consonance with its aim which will enable students and make them equipped for diverse employment opportunities. Also, Prof. L. K. Awasthi, Director, National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand, found the partnership to foster an encouraging environment for education and training of technical professionals for research on challenges and demands of future generations; and Prof. Brij Mohan Singh, Director, College of Engineering, Roorkee, saw this strategic inter-institution partnership in education and research to be an additional brick to the strong building of research in futuristic technologies and niche areas.
The initiative is keeping in view with the detailed Project Report for setting up the National Research Foundation developed by the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC).
Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman AICTE, highlighted, “IIT Roorkee has had a rich history of producing prodigies and this partnership will further facilitate in catalysing better research and innovation and blossoming of start-ups. Additionally, this initiative is an opportunity for the partner institutes to compare and contrast with IIT Roorkee thereby uplifting themselves and bring them at par with IITs.”
While extending his gratitude to all the partner institutes, Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, highlighted, “IIT Roorkee will continue on the path of its tradition and legacy to scale bigger heights and this is possible by way of creating right partnership. We believe that all the institutes will bring their unique experience into this partnership which will focus on three academic areas for building a sustainable relationship. However, in terms of innovation and incubation it shall be all encompassing.”
