Emphasizing the role of 3Hs (Head, Heart and Hand) in holistic education of children, Dr Hemlata S Mohan, Chairperson of Centre for Culture Resources & Training (CCRT) has said that the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) is going to play a big role in turnaround of arts education and art teachers in India. CCRT leader further added that art education is moving from co-curricular to curricular space as art education can be embedded and integrated in general curricula under NEP 2020. “You (art teachers) who have been marginalized in your schools for just one odd decoration, song, dance, painting on a few special occasions and days must not remain in that mindset. Children in any case need and want enrichment and fun filled pedagogy and only when you step in, can this happen,” she added while underling the necessity of integration of sensitivity and cultural quotients to IQ and EQ
Dr Mohan was speaking at workshop on the perspective of Art and Culture education in NEP 2020 on August 27. The workshop titled ‘Utkarsh’ was jointly organized by CCRT and Sanskar Bharti (the culture education wing of RSS) at CCRT headquarters in Delhi. A large number of art teachers from various schools participated in the day-long workshop which was also addressed by Prof Pramod Dubey and Prof Jyotsna Tiwari from NCERT.
