Yuva Sangam—a youth exchange program of Northeastern states with other states, portal goes live

Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme of the Ministry of Education, an initiative ideated by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for celebrating cultural diversity through mutual interaction & reciprocity between people of different States and UTs so that a common spirit of understanding resonates throughout the country, has now added a new component called ‘Yuva Sangam’ to strengthen people to people connect and build empathy between youth of the North eastern states and other States.

The Yuva Sangam will focus on conducting exposure tours of the youth comprising of students & off-campus youngsters from North Eastern States to other states & vice versa. It will provide an immersive, multidimensional experience of various facets-under four broad areas of Paryatan (Tourism), Parampara (Traditions), Pragati (Development) and Paraspar Sampark (People-to-people connect).

On Feb 6, several connected ministers came together to formally launch the portal of Yuva Sangam’ and initially the exchange program will be for 1000 youth from 14 paired institutions from all 8 NE states with 14 other states.  All Indian citizens of the age group 18-30 years – students, NSS/ NYKS volunteers, employed/ self-employed persons, etc. are eligible to apply under this programme on the portal.

UG, PG students & other youth will be considered for selection. The selection will be made keeping in view various parameters like equal representation of male and female, educational background, adequate representation from rural / remote areas, inclusivity, representation from all section of the society etc. The Nodal Higher Education Institution will make the final section based on the above criteria for the students residing in the State where the HEIs is located.  The youth selected to participate in the Samagam, i.e. the delegates will be contacted by the Nodal Officers of Higher Education Institutions for all further correspondence.

Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Yuva Sangam portal in presence of Union Minister for Law & Justice Kiren Rijiju; Union Minister for Culture, Tourism and DONER ,G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and I&B, Anurag Singh Thakur; Minister of State for Education, Dr. Subhas Sarkar and Minister of State for Education, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh. Pradhan said in line with the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’,  Yuva Sangam will strengthen people-to-people bonds, mainstream the vibrant culture of our north-eastern states and bring immense exposure and opportunities for knowledge exchanges, especially for our youth in the north-east. He  further said that Yuva Sangam will celebrate India’s diversity, rejuvenate the spirit of oneness.

Law minister, Rijiju said that the initiative of ‘Yuva Sangam’ will inculcate common spirit of understanding among thousands of youth participating in the program, which will resonate throughout the country and contribute immensely towards building a truly Shreshtha Bharat.
