Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, also known as Amrita University, has become the first Indian university to join the Times Higher Education (THE) World 100 Reputation Network, a global community of communications, brand and reputation leaders from leading universities worldwide.
A multi-campus, multidisciplinary private deemed university, Amrita was ranked seventh among Indian universities in the NIRF 2024 rankings. Its membership of the THE World 100 Reputation Network will provide opportunities to engage with leading global institutions and reputation professionals, while contributing its perspectives and experiences in education, research, sustainability and societal impact.
The THE World 100 Reputation Network brings together communications, brand and reputation leaders from universities across the world to exchange experiences, insights and best practices. Members also participate in the annual W100 Conference, which explores emerging trends and challenges in university reputation, communications and institutional engagement. Amrita’s inclusion marks the entry of an Indian university into this global community of higher education institutions and reputation professionals.
The membership comes as Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham continues to expand its international visibility through its work in education, research, sustainability and societal impact. In the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, the university was ranked 37th globally.
Welcoming Amrita to the network, Phil Baty, Chief Global Affairs Officer and COO, Times Higher Education, described the development as “another exciting landmark for India” and welcomed the university to the World 100 community.
Representing Amrita at the World 100 engagement were Dr. Maneesha Vinodini Ramesh, Pro Vice Chancellor; Prof. Manoj P., Campus Director, Bengaluru, and Dean and Head of School, School of Business, Bengaluru; and Prof. Raghu Raman, Dean, Amrita School of Business, and Director, Center for Advancing Rankings Excellence.
At the W100 Annual Conference, held at the University of Vienna, Dr. Maneesha Vinodini Ramesh participated in a session titled “Earning Trust Through Societal Impact.” Hosted by Phil Baty, the session also featured Professor Ghassan Aouad of Abu Dhabi University, a pioneering member and Senior Advisor to the W100 network.
The discussion explored how universities can place societal needs at the centre of their institutional missions and build lasting public trust through meaningful and measurable impact. Participants also examined the role of communications and reputation teams in communicating a university’s contributions to society authentically, rather than reducing institutional communication to self-promotion.
Perspectives from India and the Middle East enriched the discussion on how universities can respond to changing societal expectations, demonstrate their impact and strengthen relationships with the communities they serve.
Amrita’s approach to education is rooted in the belief that knowledge should contribute to the welfare of society. Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, has expressed this philosophy by stating: “When values and knowledge become one, there can be no more powerful instrument for the welfare of humankind.”
