As the epidemic spreads across the world (Covid-19 has now reached some 80 countries) by the minute and has even actively been detected in India, governments are scrambling to tighten prevention efforts. There have been over 121,000 confirmed cases so far across the globe, and owing to its increased rate of spreading, officials are even considering cancelling the Olympics 2020.
UNESCO announced last week that 13 countries have closed their schools, affecting 290.5 million children, while 9 other countries have implemented localised closures. Schools and universities in Italy have been on lockdown and many international students have been asked not to travel back to their hometowns. Therefore the epidemic is a global problem calling for a global response.
The Delhi government took stock of preparedness in the city announcing the closure of all primary schools till March 31 as a precautionary measure for coronavirus. While a situation like this is out of citizens’ control, one cannot stop their lives indefinitely. Many individuals have been shifted to work-from-home to prevent the spread of infection in the workplace.
Students too can switch over to online tutorials to keep studies going and several such platforms are seeing this as an opportunity of student engagement. Lido Learning is one such platform which has increased its trial period from 7 days to 14 days.
Talking about the present situation, Sahil Sheth, founder-CEO of Lido Learning said, “Online tutoring platforms like Lido provide immersive learning experiences with online tutors that students can interact with from the comfort and safety of their home. It also helps take pressure off parents for home-schooling their children during this crisis.”
For a student, learning and regular schooling is a must but when epidemic forces a stay at home to avoid the Covid-19, ed tech and online education may compensate to a large extent.
