The SRM College of Agricultural Sciences, SRMIST-Kattankulathur (KTR), in collaboration with the Isha Save Soil Movement, hosted Agri Startup Festival 2.0 on August 17, bringing together farmers, women entrepreneurs, youth, and innovators from across Tamil Nadu to spotlight sustainable agriculture and natural farming practices.

The event served as a dynamic platform for knowledge-sharing and innovation, aligning with the Save Soil Movement’s three-decade-long mission in Tamil Nadu to revitalize soil health, enhance farmers’ livelihoods, and ensure toxin-free food.

Key dignitaries present included Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice-Chancellor of SRMIST; Mr. Narendra Kumar, Executive Vice President and Head CSR, Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company Limited; and Mr. N. Selvam, Joint Director (Extension), Directorate of Extension, Department of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare, Government of India.

Highlighting the economic and ecological potential of natural farming, Mr. Narendra Kumar said:

“Across Tamil Nadu, we’ve trained farmers in sustainable techniques that improve livelihoods and provide chemical-free food. With 47 research centers and two model farms in Thiruvannamalai and Coimbatore, over ₹10 crore worth of produce has been sold, benefiting 11,500 farmers on 60,000 acres. By 2040, agriculture will be the cornerstone of our nation; doubling farmers’ income is key to making India a true agricultural powerhouse.”

Emphasizing SRMIST’s role in the agricultural transformation, Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan added:

“At SRMIST, our agricultural college, research, and startup incubation initiatives are driving sustainable farming, empowering farmers, and securing the future of food and rural development.”

Mr. N. Selvam reinforced the government’s support for organic and natural farming, stating:

“This event aims to inspire and guide participants toward sustainable farming practices, showcasing the government’s commitment to promoting organic agriculture and ensuring nutritious food for all.”

With continued training, research, and collaborative initiatives, Agri Startup Festival 2.0 underscored the importance of empowering farmers, strengthening rural economies, and building a future of nutritious, chemical-free food for all.
