The NorthCap University (NCU), Gurugram, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), has announced the launch of a BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) with a specialization in Semiconductor Design and Technology. This strategic initiative aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in India’s semiconductor sector, aligning with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to establish the country as a global semiconductor hub.
This industry-aligned programme offers students comprehensive academic training and hands-on experience in semiconductor design, fabrication, and testing. Developed jointly by NCU and IIT Mandi, the curriculum integrates advanced theoretical concepts with real-world applications, ensuring graduates are equipped with skills required by the semiconductor industry.
A key highlight of the programme is the six intensive training modules spread across 6 semesters at IIT Mandi’s advanced semiconductor labs, providing practical exposure to VLSI design, chip fabrication, and semiconductor testing. The programme follows a hybrid learning model, with IIT Mandi faculty delivering specialized courses, while NSDC facilitates industry internships, skill development funding, and career opportunities to ensure students are workforce-ready upon graduation.
The collaboration between NCU, IIT Mandi, and NSDC represents a pioneering step toward strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem by combining academic excellence, industry-driven training, and government support. Graduates will receive certifications from IIT Mandi, and their earned credits will be transferable to NCU, enhancing academic recognition and employability.
Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO of NSDC and MD of NSDC International, reinforced the programme’s alignment with national priorities, stating, “The NorthCap University’s launch of the BTech ECE in Semiconductor Design and Technology is a milestone initiative that perfectly aligns with India’s Semiconductor Mission. This programme will not only enhance employability but also cultivate future leaders in India’s semiconductor revolution.”
With India’s semiconductor market projected to surpass $100 billion by 2030, this initiative will play a crucial role in developing a skilled workforce to support the country’s semiconductor ambitions. As global giants like Vedanta-Foxconn, Tata Electronics, Intel, Qualcomm, and Micron continue investing in India’s semiconductor ecosystem, this programme will ensure that Indian talent is at the forefront of technological innovation and self-reliance.
