In a landmark announcement, Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Jhanjeri, officially declared its transition into CGC University, Mohali at a press conference held in Chandigarh ton August 19. The move marks a transformative leap for the institution, reinforcing its mission to nurture future-ready, tech-enabled, and globally competitive professionals.

With a legacy of over 25 years, the institution has now stepped into a new chapter as an autonomous university. Its leadership emphasized a bold vision—uniting academia and industry to shape the next generation of leaders, innovators, and educators. “From a college to a tech-driven, autonomous university, the leaders of the institute are committed to shaping the next generation,” read an official statement.

The announcement event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, Founder Chancellor, CGC University Mohali; Arsh Dhaliwal, Managing Director; and Dr. Sushil Prashar, Executive Director, DCPD. They were joined by leading industry voices such as Gagan Agrawal (IBM India), Amit Choudhary (KPMG India), Anand Akhouri (EY India), Ashutosh Kumar (Cognitel), Harsh Chhabra (Microsoft, Autodesk & Meta partner), and Ahmed Khalid (Imarticus Learning).

Speaking at the event, S. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal described the new university as his “commitment to society.” He remarked:

“Quality education should not be a privilege reserved for a select few. It must be the right of every individual. CGC University, Mohali stands on this very promise: to ensure that every student, no matter their background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue a life of dignity and purpose.”

Inspired by international models of higher education, Dhaliwal conceptualized the institution as India’s first “Industry-Integrated Learning Capital.” With seamless industry-academia integration at its core, CGC University aims to bridge the gap between learning and earning through a futuristic, innovation-driven curriculum.

Adding to this vision, Dr. Sushil Prashar unveiled the university’s pioneering 50:50 learning model. Under this model, half of the teaching will be delivered by CEOs, entrepreneurs, and seasoned industry professionals, while the other half will be led by academic faculty.

“We are bringing the industry to campus,” Dr. Prashar explained. “Our students will be learning not just from textbooks but from boardrooms, real-life case studies, and live projects. This is how we shape problem-solvers, thinkers, and doers of tomorrow.”

With its renewed identity, CGC University, Mohali has positioned itself as a hub of innovation and collaboration, inviting students, industry leaders, and academic partners to be part of its mission to redefine higher education in India.
