France: A Premier Study Destination

Ranked as the 6th most popular study destination worldwide, France welcomes more than 400,000 international students each year. The QS World University Rankings 2026 include 35 French universities, with four ranked among the world’s Top 100 — underscoring the country’s academic strength and global standing.

Indian students can choose from nearly 1,700 English-taught programmes across disciplines such as management, engineering, sciences, law, fashion, design, and the arts. For non-French speakers, Classes internationals offer language and foundation courses that ease entry into degree programmes. France also provides opportunities for doctoral studies within its vibrant research ecosystem.

Opportunities and Support for Indian Students

French higher education is state-supported and globally competitive, ensuring affordability without compromising quality. Each year, 500+ scholarships are dedicated to Indian students, complemented by housing assistance and social security coverage of up to 70% of medical expenses.

Students benefit from mandatory internships and professional training, ensuring practical exposure alongside academics. After graduation, Master’s students are entitled to a two-year residence permit to explore employment or entrepreneurship, while the five-year Alumni Schengen Visa offers seamless mobility across Europe.

Strengthening France–India Academic Ties

The Choose France Tour reflects France’s long-term commitment to strengthening academic and cultural links with India. With a target of welcoming 30,000 Indian students by 2030, France is expanding its already strong cooperation network, which today includes nearly 600 partnerships between Indian and French institutions.

Beyond academics, Indian students also gain an opportunity to immerse themselves in the celebrated French way of life — from its cultural heritage and gastronomy to its globally admired innovation ecosystem.
