CISCE selects 16 students for NCERT National Yoga Olympiad to be held from June 18-20

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) hosted a three-day National Pre-Yoga Olympiad at Kolkata’s South City International School from 22nd to 24th May 2023 in which 16 students were selected from 13 regions across India and UAE to represent CISCE in the upcoming NCERT Yoga Olympiad.

The National Pre-Yoga Olympiad which provided a remarkable platform for students to exhibit their yoga skills and marked the second phase of the selection process, following the Regional Yoga Olympiad conducted by CISCE from 1st April to 10th May 2023. The regional competition witnessed an impressive participation of more than 2,000 students from affiliated schools across Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry (or Puducherry), North West region, Karnataka, West Bengal & North East region, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, North India, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Dubai. Out of this talented pool, 208 students were chosen to represent their respective regions at the National Pre-Yoga Olympiad.

During the event, the participants were grouped based on their gender and grade level. Group 1A consisted of four girls from classes VI to VIII, while Group 1B comprised four boys from the same classes. Group 2A comprised four girls from classes IX and X, and Group 2B included four boys from classes IX and X. A distinguished panel of three judges, comprising experts from leading educational institutions, schools, and yoga institutes across the country, meticulously assessed the participants. The judges evaluated their skills, techniques, and overall performance.

Winners were selected on the basis of their yoga postures, including standing, sitting, prone, and supine positions. They will now participate in the NCERT Yoga Olympiad that will take place in Bhopal from the 18th to June 20th, 2023.

National Pre-Yoga Olympiad was officially inaugurated by the respected Chairman of CISCE, Dr. G. Immanuel, on 22nd May 2023. The event successfully concluded with an award ceremony by Mr. Gerry Arathoon, Chief Executive & Secretary of CISCE, on May 24, 2023.
