NAMTECH (New Age Makers’ Institute of Technology), India’s first Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MET) institute established by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India in Gujarat in 2023, is on a mission to develop the next generation of leaders for the manufacturing and technology sectors. As automation, artificial intelligence, and smart technologies continue to transform industries worldwide, the institute is focused on preparing talent capable of driving this transformation.
Recently, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, visited NAMTECH’s interim campus at the Research Park, IIT Gandhinagar to familiarize himself with its education model. The institute, which is slated to become a deemed university, hosted the Minister to showcase its distinctive education model and innovation-led ecosystem.
During the visit, Dr. Singh was introduced to NAMTECH’s pioneering approach to engineering and technology education, which combines academic rigor with hands-on learning, experiential laboratories, applied research, and deep industry integration. He toured the institute’s facilities and reviewed its academic and innovation ecosystem, which spans smart manufacturing, semiconductors, sustainability, artificial intelligence, automation, and other emerging technologies.
The Minister also interacted with members of the NAMTECH Board and leadership team, gaining insights into the institute’s efforts to create future-ready talent for India’s rapidly evolving manufacturing and technology landscape, aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He was briefed on the MET Platform and NAMTECH’s growing network of partnerships across industry, academia, and technology sectors, aimed at accelerating translational research, fostering innovation, and enabling learners to engage directly with technologies shaping the future of manufacturing.
Reflecting on his visit, Dr. Jitendra Singh said:
“The vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 requires India to build not only world-class infrastructure and technology capabilities, but also a future-ready workforce capable of driving innovation and industrial growth. Institutions such as NAMTECH are creating a new model of education where manufacturing, engineering, and technology converge to prepare talent for emerging sectors and strengthen India’s journey towards becoming a global leader in science, technology, and advanced manufacturing.”
Expressing his gratitude for the Minister’s visit, Dr. Ibrahim Hafeezur Rehman, Director General and CEO of NAMTECH, said:
“We are honoured to welcome Dr. Jitendra Singh to NAMTECH and grateful for his encouragement of our efforts to build a future-ready workforce that will drive India’s next phase of growth and innovation. Our mission is to nurture talent that will strengthen India’s innovation capabilities, accelerate industrial transformation, and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s aspirations.”
