The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) on July 18 inaugurated its new Kochi Campus, establishing a landmark Urban Learning Centre that reinforces the Institute’s long-term commitment to Kerala’s commercial capital and its vision of delivering globally benchmarked, technology-enabled management education.
Inaugurating and declaring the campus open, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, described the occasion as “the beginning of a new chapter” in the Institute’s journey as it celebrates its 30th year in 2026. Shri Loknath Behera, Managing Director, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
Located at Kalamassery, adjacent to the Cochin University Metro Station, the new campus enjoys exceptional connectivity through the Kochi Metro, national highway network and proximity to major transport hubs, making it one of the country’s most accessible management education destinations. Positioned at the intersection of Kochi’s educational, industrial and innovation ecosystem, the Urban Learning Centre is expected to become a vibrant hub for management education, executive learning, research and industry engagement.
Developed by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), the campus is an iconic 40,000 sq. ft., six-storey structure built predominantly with glass and pre-engineered steel, presenting a distinctive contemporary architectural identity. The building combines innovative engineering with sustainable design principles, reflecting KMRL’s expanding role beyond urban mobility in creating world-class public infrastructure that supports education, innovation and economic development.
Designed to global standards, this Urban Learning Centre features technology-enabled smart classrooms, advanced digital teaching infrastructure, collaborative learning spaces, a modern library, cafeteria, and student interaction areas. Built with future-ready digital capabilities, the campus has been conceived to support connected, hybrid and blended learning models, enabling seamless engagement between students, faculty, industry practitioners and global academic partners.
The inauguration marks a significant milestone in IIM Kozhikode’s journey in Kochi, which began in 2012 with the establishment of its satellite campus at Infopark, Kakkanad. Over the past fourteen years, the Kochi centre has emerged as a leading destination for executive education while expanding into undergraduate management education. The new Kalamassery campus represents a strategic expansion of this vision, strengthening IIMK’s presence in Kerala’s business capital and creating an urban academic ecosystem closely integrated with industry and public infrastructure.
Initially, the new campus will house two of the Institute’s flagship programmes—the Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) and the Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP). Going forward, IIM Kozhikode plans to expand its academic portfolio from Kochi through new executive education offerings, specialised programmes, management development programmes, international collaborations and digitally enabled learning initiatives.
Speaking after inaugurating the campus, Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, said, “With the opening of this Urban Learning Centre, IIM Kozhikode’s Kochi campus enters its next phase of growth, reaffirming its commitment to creating an accessible, digitally integrated and globally connected ecosystem for management education. As we celebrate thirty years of the Institute, this campus lays the foundation for a new generation of hybrid, technology-enabled learning while deepening our engagement with industry, society and the global academic community.”
