Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is calling for applications for the next batch of its BS Degree Programs in Data Science and Applications and Electronic Systems.
This globally accessible, flexible, and inclusive undergraduate program is designed for students and working professionals seeking a prestigious IIT education without the traditional constraints of JEE or fixed seat limits.
Important to know about these programs:
- No JEE required: Open to all learners who have passed Class XII.
- Multiple entry and exit options: Exit with a certificate/diplomas, or continue toward a BSc or BS Degree.
- Study from anywhere: Program content is delivered online, with in-person exams conducted in centers across India and abroad.
- Can be pursued alongside another undergraduate program or as a standalone degree.
- Apply while you are studying class XII
- Truly inclusive: No age limit, unlimited seats, and strong financial support for deserving students.
- Alumni status: Earn IIT Madras alumni status with the Senate-approved BSc/BS degree.
Over 38,000 active students, including professionals, career switchers, international learners, and Class XII graduates, are currently enrolled. The program is seeing growing interest from non-engineering backgrounds and working women, with 25% female enrollment and 20% aged over 30.
Direct admission is available to students who have cleared JEE Main. Others can qualify by successfully completing a four-week online preparatory module followed by an in-person qualifier exam.

The Data Science program is open to students from any stream (Commerce, Science, etc.) with Class 10 Math and English. The Electronic Systems program requires students to have studied Physics and Math in Class XI and XII.
Elaborating further, Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, Coordinator, IIT Madras BS in Data Science and Applications, IIT Madras, said: “This program exemplifies IIT Madras’ commitment to making high-quality education accessible to all. Students who are excelling at the degree level of the program have the option to upgrade to an M.Tech or MS from IIT Madras.”
Graduates of the BS programs have gone on to secure impressive opportunities in both industry and academia. In a landmark achievement, three students from the BS programs have secured top 10 All India Ranks in the GATE 2025 (AIR 1, 7, and 10) examination in Data Science and AI, a testament to the academic strength and competitive edge the program imparts.
