Masters program in Polymer Science commences at Somaiya Vidyavihar, Mumbai

Somaiya Vidyavihar launched India’s first Industry- Academia joint course in M.Sc. Polymer Science.  A unique course, the only one in India, has been developed jointly by prominent polymer Industrial and academics/researchers from national labs. The research-oriented course offers Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Physics and Polymer Engineering specialization. 

Polymer Science, an interdisciplinary area, comprising of chemical, physical, engineering, processing, and theoretical aspects, is of increasing importance in developing modern functional materials.  Despite its importance today and potential for future economic growth, there is no university-level program for polymer science in India. 

The two-year Master of Science polymer program has been jointly designed by scientists, industry and the faculty of Somaiya Vidyavihar with the goal to capacities in the field competitive with renowned polymer centres worldwide.  Students will get the opportunity to learn from renowned, experienced faculty as well as Scientists, Researchers and industry professionals with Doctoral and Post-doctoral qualifications.  As part of the course, for one semester, students will work in industry and R&D.

 Prof. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, a distinguished Polymer Scientist, Somaiya Vidyavihar said “For India to innovate in Science, we need to increase the capacity and capability of trained scientists and professionals in new areas of Science. At Somaiya Vidyavihar, this challenging interdisciplinary program benefits from the proximity of autonomous science and engineering colleges in Somaiya Vidyavihar, as also our deep relations with the industry.  We believe that as educationists, we have a responsibility of contributing to the nation’s growth through education.” 

Padmashri Prof. S. Sivaram. Ex-Director of NCL Pune an internationally renowned Polymer Scientist and an institution builder is the Chair Professor for this Programme. The Programme is overseen by a galaxy of eminent researchers and industrialists from premier institutions. 

The course will equip students for Work in industry and provides advanced training for research at the PhD level. For admissions: kjssc.soma
