Mohan Babu University Engineering Students win Big at IIT (BHU) Varanasi Hackathon

Two teams of engineering students from Mohan Babu University’s Engineering College have won laurels at the hackathon hosted by IIT (BHU) Varanasi.Their WaveWords project, emerged victorious, clinching the coveted first place in the Hackathon competition.

This ground-breaking project, centered on a pair of gloves integrated with advanced sensor technology and intelligent data processing algorithms, translates hand gestures into spoken words, facilitating seamless communication. It is designed to aid individuals facing challenges in vocal expression, exemplifies the intersection of technology and social impact.

The event, part of Technex’24, Asia’s oldest Techno-Management fest, witnessed fierce competition among technology enthusiasts nationwide. Amidst this challenging environment, the two teams from MBU Engineering College stood out, showcasing their exemplary skills and innovative spirit. The winning team was awarded a cash prize of 10,000 rupees and certificates by Innovians Technology, the organizing body.

The WaveWords Project, was ingeniously crafted by a team of four students—Challa Poojitha, D. Sai Dinesh, G. Madhan Mohan Reddy, and P.N. Dharanija— who received expert guidance and mentorship from a trio of esteemed professors: Dr. N. Padmaja, Coordinator of AICTE IDEA lab and Professor of ECE; Dr. K Ramani, Head of Department for DS; and Dr. T V S Gowtham Prasad, Associate Professor of ECE.

This Innovative Project was developed at IDEA Lab of MBU which supports students to translate their innovative ideas into products/prototypes that are helpful to the society. The IDEA lab has been established with a fund of 1.13 crores from AICTE and Host Institute.

Dr.Padmaja, Deputy Dean, Innovations and Coordinator, IDEA Lab, representing Mohan Babu University, remarked, “We are immensely proud of our students’ triumph at the Hackathon, which not only underscores their ingenuity and problem-solving abilities but also reflects our institution’s commitment to fostering innovation and technology. This victory is a testament to our relentless pursuit of excellence and our endeavour to address real-world challenges through pioneering solutions.”
