Five students who train with National Silambam and Sports Academy in Coimbatore have won medals at the the 2nd Invitational International Silambam Championship 2025, held in Malaysia from May 31 to June 1, 2025.

The proud winners include Krisshanth Rajkumar (GRD Public School, Coimbatore) who won one silver and one bronze,  A hrav Manoo (Manchester International School, Coimbatore)  winning two bronze,  Akilaryav Cibiselvan (Chettinad Vidyashram, Chennai) winning one silver, Viyhaan Lakshmi Priya (Stanes School – Samacheer Kalvi, Coimbatore) won one Bronze and  Akshara Ramprakesh (Yellow Train School, Coimbatore) bagged one bronze medal at the championship.

Silambam is an ancient Indian martial art form that originated in Tamil Nadu over 2,000 years ago. It primarily focuses on stick fighting, utilizing a bamboo staff called the “Silambam.” Known for its swift footwork, precise strikes, and defensive techniques, Silambam combines physical agility with mental discipline. Traditionally practised for self-defence and physical fitness, Silambam is now gaining global recognition as both a competitive sport and a cultural heritage art form.

Organised by Persatuan Waja Diri Silambam, Malaysia, in collaboration with MPP MBSJ ZON 24 and Best Empire Silambam Academy, Malaysia, the championship attracted over 350 skilled Silambam practitioners from countries including India, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

These accomplishments by Indian players, particularly notable in the 9 to 10 years age category, won widespread admiration from spectators and international judges alike.

The coaches of the National Silambam and Sports Academy, Coimbatore, while congratulating the winners expressed happinesses at the achievements of its players said that performance further cemented the academy’s reputation as a beacon of excellence in traditional martial arts training. “We remain steadfast in its mission to preserve and promote the ancient Indian martial art of Silambam, nurturing young talent to excel on the global stage.”
