This year, Canadian International School (CIS) proudly celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day alongside its milestone of 30 years of international education. The week-long celebrations brought together students and staff from over 40 nationalities, reflecting the school’s enduring spirit of unity in diversity and commitment to honouring India’s heritage.

The commemorations began earlier in the week, with each division engaging in unique and meaningful activities, bringing together students across all grades in a vibrant celebration of patriotism and unity. Assemblies featured heartfelt patriotic songs, spirited dances, and engaging student-led talks on the story of India’s independence. Throughout the week, a variety of interactive activities, from themed performances and reflective message boards to creative photo booths and coordinated tricolour attire, fostered a shared sense of pride and community among students and staff alike.

The celebrations will culminate in a special on-campus flag hoisting ceremony, which will be attended by students, parents, teachers, administrative staff, and support staff. The overall celebration was a powerful reminder of the collective respect and love for the country shared by the CIS community.

“It was amazing to celebrate our independence in such fun and meaningful ways – it made us feel proud and connected as a school community.”, remarked Deshna, a Grade 9 student at Canadian International School.

“As we mark 30 years of international education, this year’s Independence Day celebrations beautifully captured CIS’s essence — a multicultural community coming together to honour our shared values of respect, unity, and diversity.” said Ms. Shweta Sastri, Managing Director, Canadian International School.

“We are proud to celebrate India’s Independence Day with our incredibly diverse community. Regardless of wherever we are from, we all relate to our national pride and we are excited as a community to celebrate India’s Independence and progress as an independent nation, now in its 8th decade.” noted Dr. Ted Mockrish, Head of School, Canadian International School.

“The Student Council’s Independence Week activities truly reflected the spirit of unity and creativity among our students — from songs and reflections to colourful displays of our national pride.”, expressed Ms. Rackel, CAS Coordinator, Canadian International School.

The week concluded with a renewed sense of pride, unity, and a shared commitment to fostering global mindedness while staying rooted in the values of freedom, compassion, and respect.
