Sumadhura Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sumadhura Group, a leading real estate developer in Bangalore, on June 18 announced the reopening of Bhoganahalli’s Government Lower Primary School (GLPS) after the renovation of the 61-year-old dilapidated school building.

This community-driven renovation project, executed in partnership with the Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore, highlights the power of corporate social responsibility in creating a brighter future for students. The renovated GLPS will offer its young learners an enriched environment to learn and grow. To celebrate this milestone, Mrs. Manjula Limbavali, MLA of Mahadevapura, graced the inauguration ceremony with her esteemed presence.

The project started after Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore IT Corridor identified the need for immediate renovation and approached the Sumadhura Foundation, who in turn initiated a comprehensive reconstruction plan for complete facelift to the school.

The project addressed the wrecked condition of the 61-year-old crumbling school building which was struggling because of insufficient classrooms, inadequate toilets, lack of running water, and other basic infrastructural facilities.

Considering the importance of providing a safe and dedicated environment for quality education, the old building was demolished, leaving only two classrooms intact. Four new classrooms have been constructed in its place, along with an open area and a kitchen. Each classroom is equipped with new furniture and smart classroom facilities, ensuring a comfortable learning environment for the students. Other than the renovated classrooms, the added facilities provided under the project include separate toilets for boys and girls, better staffroom facility, a library, and a computer lab cum digital classroom on the second floor to help students broaden their intellectual horizons. Additionally, a rainwater harvesting system and a new RO plant have been installed in the school premises to ensure a constant supply of safe drinking water.

“Upgraded Education facilitates social progress; therefore, every school’s infrastructure should add value to its students’ lives. As a group, our mission is to build a solid foundation of happiness for children who require a more holistic environment to thrive. With the renovation of GLPS, we are proud to accomplish yet another noble mission. Our commitment to this project extends beyond construction. We will also provide comprehensive facilities management for the school for the next three years,” said Mr Madhusudan, CMD, Sumadhura Group at the project’s completion ceremony.

“As we celebrate the successful completion of the school renovation project, we are hopeful that this initiative, executed in partnership with Inner Wheel Club, will provide the right resources and environment students deserve to excel academically. We also expect this initiative to increase enrolment and job opportunities for support staff, besides boosting community engagement,” he added.

The completion of the renovation initiative will now enable GLPS to provide a more conducive learning environment to its 184 students, teaching staff, and the entire community.

Elaborating on the project, Mrs Shantha Divakaran, President, Inner Wheel Club Bangalore IT Corridor, said, “By accomplishing this renovation project, Sumadhura Foundation has created a lasting positive impact on the lives of the students, teachers, and migrant labourers who are an integral part of our local community. Over the years, the Foundation has refurbished several schools with proper infrastructure, and this expertise makes them a valuable partner. This joint project is more than just a renovation for us; it’s an investment in the future of children studying at GLPS.”
The local community extended its heartfelt gratitude to the Sumadhura Group for their invaluable contribution to education and community development.
