Team Greenbots from India preparing for World Robot Olympiad in Germany next month

The International Championship of World Robot Olympiad is will be held in Dortmund- Germany, from November 17-19.  India will be represented in the junior category by all boys Team Greenbots from Mumbai in the tournament. Team Greenbots comprises of three 10 graders– Keshav Mohta and Ishan Mehra from Dhirubai Ambani School besides Kritarth Modi studying in Jamnabai Narsee School.

The theme for the upcoming World Robot Olympiad for 2022 is ‘My Robot My Friend’. The combination of robotics and artificial intelligence can change the world and especially the environment of humans. The season challenges are connected to the thoughts that robots can help humans. In RoboMission Category, Teams will build and program Robots that can help human in daily household work, assist in Emergency Situation like fire and can take the Role of caretaker and transport to hospital. The teams have the task to develop a robot model which represents the robot as a friend and helper in the daily life of people.

Speaking on behalf of his team Greenbots, a team coached by RFL, Kritarth Modi is hopeful of doing well and brings laurels for the country. “We have been training hard for this event 3-4 days a week at the facility for past six months and everything looks exciting,” he adds. The three boys when in class 7 met in 2019 at the robotics lab and but for pandemic disruption have been training in robotics. They have also represented India in Gyor, Hundary WRO 2019 where they secured the 31st place. This was followed by a spectacular 4th position at the WRO championship held in Germany in 2021.   When questioned on what piqued his interest in science, he says, “I was always curious as to how things work. This led me to science. Knowing how things work satisfies me. My dad reading science books to me also helped in a great way.”

World Robot Olympiad (WRO) is one of the largest and most prestigious global robotics competitions for K-12 kids in the world. Every member nation first holds the regional and then national level competition. This competition has been extremely popular in India since 2007. WRO comes with a theme every year and students must design and code their robots using Lego Mindstorms EV3 kits to solve the given challenge
