To be given biennially to individuals as well organizations from across SAARC countries by the Rotary International, this year, the award will be given in the field of ‘Basic Education and Literacy’ and carries cash prize of US $ 15,000


Rotary International has invited applications for The Gopal Kamala Rajbhandari Humanity Award 2020 in the area of literacy and is open to non-Rotarian individuals and organisations from The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries—India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan. The Award cash prize is $ 15,000, in INR, it is around 11 lakhs. The award and citation will be presented in a special function to be held on 16th May 2020 at Kathmandu, Nepal.
The applicant can be an individual or an organization. The work should be directly related to Basic Education and Literacy – awareness/sensitization / direct contribution / significant change etc. The applicant should be currently active and or involved in this field. The work should have been consistent over the last 5 years. The applicant should have not received any major State/National/International recognitions or awards. Those who apply should have a substantial visible social impact, The work must be national. Additionally, work could be international

The award as been instituted at the behest of Rotary International District 3292, Nepal and is named after Rotarian Gopal Raj Bhandari and Kamala Raj Bhandari. Raj Bhandari family has graciously agreed to contribute the prize money of this award. In this First Year, 2020, the award will be given in the field of “Basic Education and Literacy”. The main objective of this award is to recognize a person amongst SAARC countries for outstanding service extended to the community or society at large, in a selfless and dedicated manner, in the true spirit of the Rotary’s motto of ‘Service above Self’.

The applicant should not be a member of the Rotary / Inner Wheel Clubs or blood relative of any Rotary / Rotaract / Inner Wheel member. In case of an organization, any member of the Governing Board or Managing committee should not be a member of any Rotary / Rotaract / Inner Wheel club
