The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS, established in 1936) a Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956, an institution of excellence in social and developmental studies in India, has in a statement said that it has initiated fact finding on a student’s Master’s Dissertation adding, “the Institute doesn’t endorse the title.”
The issue propped up after a tweet about a thesis by a student supporting separatism in Kashmir caught attention of twitterers and raised number of objections on the way TISS allows itself to be used by sympathizers of separatists in the garb of research students.
What @TISSpeak says in its defence is balderdash. It is not about a student's dissertation. It is about how an institute set up for 'social work' in honour of Sir Dorabji Tata has turned itself into 'subversive separatism' literature publisher. Management allowed it to happen.
