University of Essex, one of Britain’s top-rated Universities, has launched a new programme ‘BEng Mechatronic systems’ and becomes the only university in Europe to offer such  a programme which will enable students to develop the sophisticated intelligent systems that the modern world is already so reliant on. Essex  is now inviting applications from graduate students for the first session beginning October 2019.

The new programme enables students to create their own mechatronic systems, developing them from imagination through to reality – opening up huge opportunities for careers in the field. Mechatronics combines principles from mechanics, electronics, computer engineering, automatic control and robots. Mechatronic engineering is the design, manufacture and testing of devices that utilize a combination of these disciplines in the same device. One will gain knowledge of engineering processes, product design, as well as the use of digital electronics and computer-aided (CAD) software. This will enable them to create their own mechatronic systems, developing them from imagination through to reality.

Students on this course will learn the skills required to design, build and test robotic systems, including the structural frame. The design of the structural frame is the unique element that separates mechatronics from electronic and robotics.

These courses can lead a student into incredibly exciting careers where they might be helping to create anything from self-driving cars to the collaborative robots or ‘co-bots’ of the future which will work alongside humans in factories, homes, farms, and extreme environments.

Speaking on the launch of the programme, Professor Anthony Vickers, Head of the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering said “We are excited to launch the BEng Mechatronic Systems’ as a new programme in our university which is open for all UG who wants to be part of the exciting future of robotics. This programme will help make students future ready and accelerate their careers multi-dimensionally.”

The last date of submission of the application is 30th June. The admission process for BEng in Mechatronic system has already begun and students can apply by visiting www.ucas.com . Full details on this process can be obtained from the UCAS website in the how to apply section.
