World University of Design has conferred the ‘WUD Critics’ Choice Award’ for 2025 on renowned printmaker Devraj Dakoji, honoring his remarkable contributions to the world of printmaking. Presented by Prof. (Dr) Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor, this prestigious award acknowledges his outstanding talent and dedication towards the field of printmaking, reinforcing his reputation as a key figure in contemporary art honoring his remarkable contribution. Also present for felicitation was Ms. Rasika Kajaria, Director, Exhibit320.

Born in Hyderabad, Dakoji’s early experience of picking herbs for his father influenced his art, making nature a central theme. His works, especially printmaking, draw inspiration from Indian culture, with nature and animals as recurring motifs. Notable works include the Stone series, inspired by his hometown, and a series influenced by his epiphanic experience with a peacock in San Diego in 1985.

The WUD Critics’ Choice Awards for Visual Arts are instituted by World University of Design to encourage and empower the diverse range of visual artists in the country, across different genres. These Awards honor the outstanding artistic contribution of the established artists and provide opportunity for recognition for emerging artists presenting their work in premier galleries and events in Delhi NCR. The award is in the form of a specially designed Trophy along with a certificate. It honors talent showcasing the rich visual art culture across India.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta Vice Chancellor, World University of Design said, “Life is best celebrated and expressed by way of arts and we at WUD are evangelists of this domain. With the WUD Critics Choice Awards, we reaffirm our admiration and deep respect for Devraj Dakoji, whose lithographs and etchings have masterfully showcased Indian culture over the decades. Through his vivid works, he has pushed boundaries between printmaking, painting, and mixed media. His understanding of the surface and texture are profound, and his drawings are meditative. His influence on contemporary Indian printmaking, both through his work and his mentorship, has helped shape multiple generations of artists.”
