Education institutions across India participate in the International Day of Yoga 2024 themed ‘Yoga for Self and Society’

June 21, the International Day of Yoga, like its previous editions, was a big event across campuses in India. It saw enthusiastic participation from the students, faculty, staff, and officials. The event also raised awareness about the importance of yoga in daily life through physical health and mental well-being.

This year’s theme for the International Day of Yoga was “Yoga for Self and Society,” emphasizing the role of yoga in fostering individual well-being and societal harmony.

Coming together the community of enthusiastic participants raised awareness about the benefits of yoga, fostered its cultural understanding, build community spirit.

Children engaged in arts and crafts activities, creating yoga-themed drawings, posters, and crafts, which encouraged creativity while reinforcing the principles of yoga. Parents and children were invited to practice yoga together during Family Yoga Time, fostering a sense of community and shared well-being, and highlighting the role of yoga in strengthening family bond.

IIM Lucknow 

Indian Institute of Management Lucknow celebrated the International Day of Yoga (IDY) to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga. Aligned with the holistic development goals of the Institute, a large number of participants contributed to creating a healthier and more harmonious learning environment.

TProf. Archana Shukla, Director, IIM Lucknow, highlighted, “Originating in India, yoga has captured global attention and devotion. Today, people worldwide practice yoga, acknowledging its profound benefits. Beyond mere exercise, yoga is a holistic lifestyle that harmonizes the mind, body, and intellect, promoting overall well-being and inner peace.”

The institute organized a Yoga Competition on 15th June 2024 under the theme of “Yoga for Women Empowerment” to highlight the importance of yoga in promoting physical and mental well-being. The event saw enthusiastic participation across four categories:

  • Children under 18 years
  • Women aged 18-50 years
  • Women over 50 years
  • Men over 18 years

Asanas including Setu Bandh, Gomukha, Vir Bhadra, Hanuman, Ushtra, Uttana Pada, Sarvanga, Ashvatha, and Santulana were featured in the competitions. Participants were required to hold each asana for a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of 3 minutes.

The competition underscored the significance of yoga in enhancing personal wellness and fostering community harmony. Outstanding performances by participants were acknowledged with prizes and participation certificates during the event. Prof. Archana Shukla awarded prizes to the top three winners in each category.

 

The Millennium School, Indore

The Millennium School, Indore, celebrated International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm, fostering a sense of unity and well-being among its students and staff. The event saw active participation from around 900 students and teachers, reflecting the school’s commitment to promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

“Yoga is a journey that one takes from self to self and through self,” encapsulates the essence of the day’s activities. The celebration began with warm-up exercises, followed by a demonstration of various yoga asanas by the students. Both sitting and standing asanas were performed, with explanations provided on their significance and benefits for physical and mental health.

On this occasion Sangeeta Uppal, Principal of The Millennium School, Indore addressed her school, stating “It is a happy moment to see my children and staff actively participating on this occasion. I would like to convey that it is important for everyone to practice yoga on a daily basis to keep oneself fit. It should be integrated in my student’s holistic life”.

Makoons Play Schoo celebrated International Yoga Day across all Makoons branches, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of yoga in daily life and to highlight its numerous benefits for physical and mental well-being.

International Yoga Day, celebrated worldwide on June 21, was established to promote the ancient practice of yoga and its holistic approach to health and wellness. In India, the celebration is spearheaded by the Ministry of AYUSH, emphasizing the country’s rich heritage and the significance of yoga.

Professional yoga instructors led specially designed yoga sessions for children, parents, and staff, focusing on simple and effective poses that can be easily incorporated into daily life. These sessions emphasized the importance of breathing exercises, mindfulness, and physical flexibility. Additionally, children participated in interactive workshops where they learned about the history and benefits of yoga through fun activities such as yoga storytelling, where stories were narrated through yoga poses, making the learning process enjoyable and memorable.
