JEE (Main) April 2020 is scheduled from September 1-6, and NEET UG 2020 exam is scheduled for September 13. These two examinations conducted by NTA are crucial for undergrad courses in engineering and medicine respectively and were postponed owing to covid pandemic. As the rescheduled dates of these draw nearer, pandemic related concerns are being voiced by a large number of aspirants and others. They want these exams to be further postponed until pandemic situation is brought under control.

Support is pouring in from several quarters to this campaign. Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader has thrown his weight behind such chourus and requested the Prime Minister to intervene.

With so many State Governments calling for postponement of NEET/JEE examination, and even Allen Coaching also, why the Ministry of Education being so obstinate ? PM Modi must take a call and order the postponement—now

— Subramanian Swamy (@Swamy39) August 25, 2020

Author Chetan Bhagat in his tweet also advised the government to postpone the two exams until early 2021.

I think a vaccine is round the corner and expected in a few months. Maybe the NEET and JEE could be postponed until then and see the situation in early 2021.

Entrance exams cause enough anxiety anyway, adding Covid anxiety to it is not necessary.

A surprise support came from teenage Climate and environmental activist, Greta Thunberg

It’s deeply unfair that students of India are asked to sit national exams during the Covid-19 pandemic and while millions have also been impacted by the extreme floods. I stand with their call to #PostponeJEE_NEETinCOVID

— Greta Thunberg (@GretaThunberg) August 25, 2020

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bangerjee has already written to the PM to this effect and so has Aaditya Thackeray. https://curriculum-magazine.com/aaditya-thackeray-suggests-to-pm-january-21-as-academic-year/
