Sharda University, Knowledge Park, Greater Noida, jointly on June 3-4 organized a two-day international conference on ‘Decolonizing Colonial Infrastructure: A Path to Indigenous Revival’ with the Indian Culture Global Centre, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the International Centre for Cultural Studies (ICCS). The conference aimed to discuss the importance of reviving indigenous cultures and eliminating colonial influences in modern infrastructure
Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and 7th Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju graced the conference as the Chief Guest. Sharing his views, teh minister highlighted that many young people today struggle to recall the names of their own villages but can easily name foreign cities. He stressed the importance of preserving one’s mother tongue and cultural heritage. According to him, true success is achieved when people from other countries connect with and appreciate your culture.
He also commended Sharda University Chancellor P.K. Gupta for his vision of promoting Indian culture through the university’s Indian Culture Global Center and Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty. Rijiju noted that this was his second visit to the university, praising its growth and commitment to cultural values.
This conference featured experts and scholars from various fields, reflecting a collective effort to reconnect with and promote India’s rich cultural heritage.
Addressing the gathering PK Gupta, Chancellor, Sharda University stated “To promote Indian culture globally, we must unite and share our heritage with as many countries as possible. Indigenous progress is rooted in honesty and culture. Students should learn about their regional culture. The first teacher for a child is the mother. Therefore, it’s essential to educate girls and provide them with job reservations.”
The conference underscored the importance of decolonizing educational frameworks and reviving indigenous knowledge systems to foster a more inclusive and culturally rich society. Sibaram Khara, Vice Chancellor, Sharda University; Dhananjay Singh, Dr. Anvint Gupta, Dr. Prashant Arvey, Dr. Shashi Balaji were along with deans and directors also participated in the event.
