Hindustan Zinc renovates & inaugurates 50-year-old Swami Vivekanand School in Udaipur

Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group Company, has contributed to renovation of Swami Vivekanand Government Senior Secondary School at Zawar, Rajasthan at a cost of more than INR 50 lakhs. The company renovated 12 classrooms, 3 washrooms, 12 pillars and the roof. The company also installed a new drinking water facility in the school to safe drinking water for the students.

In fact, it was Hindustan Zinc that had laid the founding stone for Swami Vivekanand school, which is now a legacy of 50+ years of sharing knowledge with students from across 10+ villages. During the pandemic, the children had been staying home for their safety; hence the school was not being used. Hindustan Zinc constructively utilized this time and took the initiative of renovating the school, so that the children would have best-in-class facilities ready for them once they returned. Apart from the 232 students enrolled in the school and 23 teaching staff, students giving their board exams at the school will also be able to benefit from this renovation.

On 16th July, a special inaugural ceremony was held wherein Virendra Singh Yadav, District Education Officer, Udaipur opened the renovated school building. Kishore S, Strategic Business Unit Director, Zawar Group of Mines, Hindustan Zinc, Laluram Meena, Union Leader, Zawar Mines, Hindustan Zinc, Anupam Nidhi, CSR Head, Hindustan Zinc, HZL Zawar EXCO Members and Sarpanch Nevatalai, Sarpanch Singhtawada and Sarpanch Bhaladia were present during the inauguration.

Kishor S, Strategic Business Unit Director, Zawar Group of Mines, Hindustan Zinc, said it reinforced our company’s  strong commitment on education and community care that we all together should create curiosity and eagerness to study in the students which will help them build their bright future.

On this occasion, Lalu Ram Meena, General Secretary of Mazdoor Sangh said that there is no other school like this one in this area. Along with its heritage, this school has always looked after all kinds of necessities of the students and staff concerned with education. He mentioned that the renovation work would encourage the students to visit the school. In his speech, he also appreciated the laboratories available in the school that are exemplary in the entire district.
